Our tamariki are aware that glad wrap and chippie packets go into Papatuanuku. Our tamariki have wrapper free lunch boxes. We celebrate Mana o te Ātua by thinking about what goes into Papatuanuku.
Our tamariki grew kamokamo and rīwai Māori in our maara kai. They celebrated the kai that our tipuna cooked at our marae. We acknowledged the whakapapa of our kai and our whanau shared what they made with the kamokamo and rīwai Māori.
Our whanau sent photos in to share what they had made with their pumpkins. Mana o te wairua.
Our tamariki were able to grow hua whenua in our maara kai. The tamariki were excited to harvest the huge pumpkin. It was shared with their whanau. Mana o te whanau.
Our tamariki learn about analysing the quality of our local waterways; Awanui, Kahumoko and Turamoe. The tamariki look at the biodiversity of the creatures that are in them. They test the water clarity as well as the quality of; acid, alkaline or ph levels. The tamariki know that healthy vertebrates means a healthy waterway. The tamariki also know that there should be shade along the waterways to keep the water cool in the summer.
